2010 WC Qualifiers Wrap Up

The Qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup are over, except for the playoff games which will determine the last batch of teams that will travel to South Africa. Here is a breakdown of the qualified teams, and the teams that will fight for a spot in the playoffs.

Europe

Qualified teams: Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Slovakia, Switzerland, England, Italy, Serbia, Spain

Playoff teams: Portugal, Greece, Slovenia, Russia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ukraine, France, Republic of Ireland

Many big teams had difficulty in Europe, Portugal and Sweden struggled, and eventually Portugal prevailed, leaving Sweden and Ibrahimovic out of the 2010 World Cup. France struggled to get in the playoffs as well, but great playing by Gignac and Benzema helped save them a spot in the playoffs. Italy made it through, but coach Marcello Lippi was met with heavy controversy by Italian journalists for leaving Cassano out of the squad. England cruised through qualifications with new coach Fabio Capello, and Spain and the Netherlands had little trouble qualifying too.

South America

Qualified teams: Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Argentina

Playoff team: Uruguay

Only one change in the four qualified teams from the last World Cup, Chile takes the place of Ecuador in the top four. Chile is well known for their extremely attacking play, playing with the 3-3-1-3 formation Chile seems to be one of the teams that will add spice to this upcoming World Cup. Argentina makes it in at the last with controversial comments from Maradona. It seemed that Argentina might not qualify because of the constant change in the squad.

Concacaf

Qualified teams: USA, Mexico, Honduras

Playoff team: Costa Rica

The USA did well in these qualifiers, immediately solidifying its position, and their rival Mexico tried to overcome them, but were short one point. Honduras overcame Costa Rica thanks to a late goal by USA International Bornstein.

Africa

Qualified teams: Ghana, Ivory Coast

The African qualifiers haven't finished, and so far only two teams are qualified, Ghana and Ivory Coast. South Africa is already qualified because it is the host nation.

Asia

Qualified teams: Australia, Japan, Korea Republic, Korea DPR

Playoff teams: Bahrain, Saudi Arabia

The Asian qualifiers were quickly dominated by Australia and the Korea Republic, both having lost no games, they came first in their respective groups. A very tight competition between Korea DPR, Saudi Arabia, and Iran, all within one point of each other, Iran was unable to qualify.

Oceania

Playoff team: New Zealand

In Oceania, no direct qualification, the winner of the group of four teams goes in the playoff stages, New Zealand dominated the group with almost double points compared to New Caledonia who came second.

FIFA 2010, 2010 Fifa World Cup

Tapi saya tetap salut sama dia.

Kualifikasi Piala Dunia FIFA 2010

  • tempat ke-5 AFC v pemenang OFC

Be careful when buying tickets for the 2010 World Cup

A report in The Times today has revealed that up to 100 websites may be selling tickets for the 2010 World Cup that don't exist, duping thousands of supporters thinking they tickets for South Africa when they haven't.

Much like the lottery scam will take several forms but each of them are still a scam, there are going to be lots of websites claiming to sell tickets for the event next year but there is actually only one website, FIFA.com, that will be selling tickets and only a few more companies where you can buy authorised packages.

"Our work with New Scotland Yard is yet another example that we are taking serious steps to stop unauthorised entities from selling tickets to the 2010 FIFA World Cup,” Jérôme Valcke, the FIFA general secretary, told The Times last night.

“We applaud the work of New Scotland Yard in its efforts to ensure that our common goal is to target and shut down illegitimate entities or unauthorised tickets. We simply cannot accept that true fans are being cheated in this way.”

Bottom line, don't buy tickets online unless through the FIFA website, it is the only place you can buy tickets and now is a very good time as the ticketing process is nearing the end of the second phase.

The second sales phase started on May 4th and runs until November 16th and tickets applications are processed, subject to availability, on a first come first served basis - in the order of receipt. If you really want a ticket, then this is your best option.

FIFA have also only got one rights holder of the Official Hospitality Programme for the World Cup and they are called MATCH. These tickets are aimed at corporate customers or if you are absolutely minted and want the best for your time in South Africa. If you are interested in this type of ticket click here.

World Cup 2010 qualified teams: Eight more confirmed

Eight more countries are now confirmed to attend the World Cup finals in South Africa next year after two more nights of World Cup qualifying football all over the world.

The new teams to confirm their attendance in South Africa are: USA, Mexico, Chile, Italy, Serbia, Denmark, Germany and Ivory Coast. This brings the total number of confirmed countries to nineteen and there will be more added to this list later this week.

Mexico and the USA secured qualification thanks to wins over El Salvador and Honduras respectively, in the penultimate round of North American qualifying and they are the first two teams to qualify from that group. Ivory Coast are the third African team after hosts South Africa and Ghana qualified but the bulk on new teams confirmed for the event next year came through the European group.

2010 World Cup South Africa Qualifier And Qualifying

Here is the latest results for the 2010 Fifa World Cup South Africa qualifier. Am surprised that North Korea made it, after so many years of absence, I bet they will try to make a huge impression due to their previous record.

Not a single Arab countries managed to make it, except for Bahrain, which will be decided this coming week when they play with New Zealand. Australia is in for the second time, they are not much of a soccer country, doubt they are going to make a splash.

Soccer coaches welcome 2010 draw schedule

Cape Town – Soccer coaches have welcomed the 2010 Final Draw schedule, promising that each team will perform their best during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Nigerian Coach Shuaibu Amodu said he was not intimidated by being drawn with South American giants Argentina.

“Each and every team in the World Cup is the same so it unnecessary to focus on one team,” he said, adding that the players should take each and every game seriously.

New Zealand Coach Ricki Herbert said Group F (Italy vs New Zealand and Paraguay vs Slovenia) is going to be a tough group.

“Its going to be a tough group particularly Paraguay and Italy which have shown great performances in the qualifiers. However, this is going to inspire us.”

He said although Italy will be one of the toughest opponents, they will take each and every game according to their plan.

Asked whether New Zealand will reach the second stage of the tournament, the coach said: “We don’t have to think about that because that might put us under pressure, our aim is to focus on each and every game.”

French Coach Raymond Domenech said he was very proud to be playing South Africa as they are the host country and he is sure that it is going to be difficult because Bafana Bafana will have most of the fans supporting them at the stadium.

France and South Africa have been placed in Group A. South Africa will play against Mexico and Uruguay will play against France.

Mexican Coach Jevier Aguire said it would be an honour to play South Africa as the eyes of the world would be on them as the host country which would encourage them to perform better on their home ground.

“There will be too much pressure but it’s also an honour.” - BuaNews
